LOCK AND KEY                                                by Sarah Dessen  Lock and Key is a book written by Sarah Dessen about an adolescent girl, Ruby, who is abandoned by her troubled mother. Ruby Cooper has not had an easy life. Her alcoholic mother is barely ever home, and her father is not a part of her life. She lives in a shabby rented yellow house.  She struggles with her schoolwork, and since she has nobody to help her, she fails most of her classes. She does all the housework as well. Ruby doesn’t have a very significant relationship with her mother. Her mother stays out late, and leaves her home alone often. She sometimes disappears for a few days and then comes back, and just lolls around the house. She does not concern herself with paying her bills, the housework or even her daughter’s wellbeing. One day, Ruby wakes up to an empty house. She assumes its one of her mother’s week-long disappearing acts, and goes about her day. By now, she is used t
TORN              by Cat Clarke I really enjoyed reading this book.  Cat Clarke has a way of making every book she writes a real page-turner.  To put it bluntly, Torn is a book about four girls. The four girls,  are Alice, the narrator, Cass, her Best Friend, Rae, a moody emo girl and Polly, a social outcast. Okay. Four girls, on a school field trip in Scotland, sharing a cabin with the most popular girl  in school, Tara. Nothing much could go wrong,  right? Well, if  you thought no, you've been mistaken.  The four girls think that its time to teach Tara a lesson and decide to scare her with a harmless prank. But that so called 'harmless' prank was not harmless at all.  Tara dies. And the girls try to cover it up. They never meant to do it. But after they reach back home, Alice keeps seeing Tara in her bedroom. At first she thinks its a figment of her imagination. She thought that guilt was doing crazy things to her brain. But then Tara starts to talk. T

Wonder by R.J. Palacio

Wonder                    by R.J Palacio Wonder is an extremely well-written book about a 10 year old boy called August Pullman. August, affectionately called 'Auggie' has 'small anomalies' on his face, which basically means that his face is deformed. He has learned to ignore the sniggers, stares  and horrified looks he gets when people see his face. Auggie has a very close relationship with his mother. He finds best friends in a nice and friendly boy called Jack, and a smart and pretty girl called Summer. They make a great team. This amazing book is about the situations and scenarios that August goes through everyday. Most people think that just because August is deformed, that he is dumb as well. But August is the complete opposite of dumb. He is extremely smart and even receives a high Honor Roll award from his school. The school bully(the popular guy), Julian , is shallow and inconsiderate. He thinks that he is the best and acts like that as well. He

Daddy Long Legs by Jean Webster

Daddy-Long-Legs written by  Jean Webster Daddy-Long-Legs is a greatly amusing and beautiful book written by Jean Webster. We had an excerpt of the book as a chapter in our English textbook.  I extremely enjoyed learning that lesson, so I decided that I would try and read it! Fortunately, I found it one of the shelves in the library and soon, needless to say, I was stuck in the book. Daddy-Long-Legs is a book written in the form of letters. Letters from Jerusha  Abbott  to  her benefactor who had sent her to college. You see, ‘Judy’, as she likes to be called, is an orphan in the John Grier Home. She is eighteen years of age, and has never in her life seen the outside world. Judy longs and longs to go out, attend college, make actual friends, eat tasty food, get new dresses, lots of things.. She absolutely detests the John Grier Home as she thinks that they attempt to turn ‘98 orphans into 98 twins’.  But one day, the headmistress of John Grier Home calls her to her office.  Judy

Chapter 4- Expectations raised.

Expectations raised Despite all that I said about this school, as Rachelle said, its actually turning out to be great! The teachers are fair enough, and the activities and subjects are excellent!  But now there’s a new problem. Nikki Cooper is tagging along with me ALL the TIME, which is soo annoying! :/ She asks me how I do my hair, how I get these grades, how I blah-blah-blah. SERIOUSLY?! I thought she was a sensible, quiet, kind and smart girl when I first heard her singing and all that stuff. But now she’s some fluffy haired, Nicole-sherman-crazy, very very annoying, maniac to me. And sometimes, she even scares me. I mean, she just sneaks onto me at night and asks me to please do her homework for her. Like, What? I REALLY want her to push off and leave me alone.  Imagine if you could transfer your thoughts to someone else? That would be awesome! She would know how I feel(I wouldn’t have to say it face to face), and maybe she’ll keep her distance from me J . Of course, you

Chapter 3(Nicole-Life at Red Rays)

Chapter-3- School Day!!! ‘Hey! You’re the new girl, right? Nicole Sherman? Rachelle’s and Megan’s Best Friend? I’m Nikki Cooper, by the way.’ I smiled. It was Nikki Cooper! ‘Yeah. Uh, Nikki, I heard your song on YouTube and stuff. You’re selected for the Singing Competition…?’ I said. She said, ‘Yep. That’s me. I heard that you are going to go through the selections today… Good Luck!’ I grinned. ‘Thanks!’ It was the first day of Red Rays. I had a tearful sendoff with Mum and Dad. I really miss them already. It was lunch now. So far, I liked all the teachers and stuff. Its pretty cool, this school. Ha! That’s a RHYME! I was interrupted in my thoughts by Rachelle. ‘I saw you talking to Nikki Cooper. She’s nice, right?’ I nodded. All of a sudden I heard a musical voice calling out, ‘Rachelle? Heyy! And Hey! to you too, Dress Dunce! Who is that blonde girl with you?’ I was pretty sure that was Sarah Janice. ‘Hey, Sarah. This is Nicole Sherman. She’s our Best Friend. And she’s new.’ Sai

Chapter 2 (Nicole-Life at Red Rays)

Chapter 2- BFF conversation          I’m at Megan’s house with Rachelle. As soon as I reached home after going to Red Rays, I cycled over to Megan’s. Rachelle was painting her nails a grotesque vomit-green color and smiling affectionately at it. That girl has just gone nuts! I sat down at the edge of Meg’s bed and watched Rachelle painting her perfectly trimmed nails that ridiculously disgusting green. ‘You are ruining your nails, Ray! Paint it some pretty color like purple or pink or gold or silver. Not vomit green!’ Rachelle turned to me, flipped her silky brown hair back and waved her fully-painted nails in front of me. ‘What’s the prob, Nikki? I think it perfectly suits my skin shade. It totally complements my diamond blue eyes… Maybe the color’s not too good, but I think it suits me.’ She said. I rolled my eyes. Rachelle is the prettiest girl in the whole neighborhood. She is indescribably pretty! Megan is also really pretty. But she never wears pretty clothes . Rachelle ha
